Having a printer at home is a small luxury that is well worth the investment. You should be able to finish your manuscript and hold it in your hands just moments later. Maybe you’ve been meaning to hang some family photos but can’t get around to having them professionally printed. It’s probably time to stop scanning personal documents at your office or walking to Fedex in the rain. Here are three excellent printers for the home to suit everyone’s needs.

You can have it all with the HP OfficeJet 3830: wireless printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. This is really an excellent at-home printer for those of you who want a little bit of everything. You can connect it directly to your smartphone or tablet and if noise bothers you, simply switch it to quiet mode. It won’t take up much space—it’s 14.33 by 17.72 by 8.54 inches—but it will make a lasting impression. Best of all, this printer won’t break the bank.

Canon is probably best known for their cameras, but they also happen to make a mean photo printer. This machine can handle even your fanciest DSLR- it prints resolution up to 4800 x 2400 dpi. You don’t even have to connect to your computer to print. The PictBridge connection allows you to print photos directly from a variety of devices, including compatible digital cameras and smartphones. If you want to blow up a photo, the Canon Pixma allows you to size up to 13 by 19-inch prints. This year there’s no getting out of a family holiday card.

If speed and quantity are your primary concerns, this Brother printer is a great choice. Many of us like the idea of printing the rainbow, but the reality is we’ll mostly be using our printers for taxes and the like. This black and white printer can churn out 36 pages per minute and can handle a variety of paper sizes and thicknesses (envelopes, card stock, etc.). It holds up to 250 sheets at a time, so you won’t have to constantly replace the paper. Another great feature allows you to scan directly to Cloud services like Google Drive and Dropbox. If you’re running a business from your apartment or just prefer paper to screens, this is a no-brainer investment.
